The Vegan Oven

I wanted to do something different for my dad's birthday cake. While looking for fun toppings my eyes stopped on wafers. MMM! I made him a chocolate layer cake with wafers in the middle and on top. SO GOOD! I made it the night before and the wafers got a little soft in the middle, but I don't think that ruined the effect.

My chocolate cake recipe is probably one of my favorite recipes. I could eat it without frosting and just smelling it hits the spot.

The wafer cake was quite the success. My dad said it looked like a party cake and it was delicious. I'll definitely keep this cake in mind for future celebrations.

Sweets for Sweets

I feel like a lot of people dislike Valentine's Day. I know why they do, but really? It's not that much different from other holidays that emphasize a feeling. So whatever, I like it! Single or not!

This year I made sugar cookies for some pals and my pigs. I definitely ate a lot of the dough, as we all know eating dough and batter are always my favorite part of baking.

These sweets didn't last long! They're all gone and were thoroughly enjoyed! So to everyone, yes everyone, Happy Valentine's Day!

Winner Winner!

Usually I sell my vegan goods to raise money for Ironwood Pig Sanctuary. However, I also like to donate goods to other fundraisers and such.

Recently a woman bid on a gift certificate for 2 dozen cinnamon rolls from the Vegan Oven. She claimed her goodies this week. Her plan is to hand them out to some neighbors and enjoy some herself. Great idea! I delivered them to her yesterday. Great way to start the new year :)

Peanut Butter Chocolate Addiction

It's true, I'm all about peanut butter and chocolate. I usually make my peanut butter and chocolate brownies, but I decided to do a cupcake again. I really don't enjoy making cupcakes, not sure why. So I'm making myself make new cupcake recipes and making it fun so perhaps I'll be making them more often and enjoying it!

Today I made a peanut butter and chocolate swirl cupcake topped with a peanut butter, chocolate fudge frosting. I actually really enjoyed making these!! I also definitely enjoyed eating some as well! They are just as good naked as they are topped with frosting. I think they'd go great with some vanilla soy ice cream as well.

Pigs!

In honor of working with, living with and loving pigs, I like to make pig shaped treats. I'm sure that can sound weird, BUT, it works :)

Cute pig cookies and cakes seem to win hearts! And taste buds :)

Happy Thanksgiving

I love the holidays. Especially cooking and baking for family and friends. This year I was in charge of stuffing and pies. I've used the same stuffing recipe for a couple of years now, tweaking it here and there. I use this recipe from Food Geeks as a base.

http://www.foodgeeks.com/recipes/4593

I use 2 different kinds of onions and add some fresh parsley along with the dried flakes. I don't like mushrooms so I exclude those :) I also use a bit more of the veggie broth than the recipe shows. This year I also added some wild rice, mmm!
