Daiya

Vanessa and I have made it a habit to get some good eats after our First Friday events. We wanted to hit up Green last time but they closed early. Instead we did our usual and headed to Z Pizza (http://www.zpizza.com/). The staff are always super friendly and helpful and the pizza is always fresh and delicious! We got the Berkely Vegan and made sure to save some for leftovers for the next day.

Z Pizza uses daiya cheese on their vegan pizzas. MMM!

Don't Forget the Dogs

I'm very big on making sure my dogs have a healthy diet. I keep them on a vegetarian dog food and vegan dog treats. Normally I purchase the treats but recently I ran out and living an hour away from the nearest store that carries the treats I opted to bake my own.

I've done this in the past but I think I will make it a habit to always do this. It's incredibly easy to make your own treats and you can control what goes into them. Dogs, like humans, have different kinds of food allergies so it's nice to be able to make something custom for your pet.

Luckily the pugs do not have any current food allergy that I know of so I made oatmeal peanut butter bars. I also plan to make these dipped in carob or with a carob drizzle. I did not have any wheat flour today but that is what I normally use in dog treats. I added some parsley for fresh breathe! Lady did a special dance for these treats, no joke. She stood on her back legs and did a little tap dance jig.

I tried these treats myself and while a little bland I have to say I'd eat another.

I would love to take special orders on dog treas and such. Jack's birthday is coming up so expect to see something special for him :)

First Friday

Friday night Vanessa and I headed out to Phoenix for the First Friday event. Just like last time we had baked goods and were taking donations for Ironwood Pig Sanctuary. We brought donuts, cherry/maple cookies, maple/pb fudge and snickerdoodles. From what I heard everything tasted great! I must agree!

We raised over $170 in donations!! What a great night. We always come with Ironwood newsletters and info on Ironwood so people know exactly what they are donating to.

A big thank you to Blueberry Deluxe on 7th Ave and Montecito for always having us and to Veronica with Animal Advocates of Arizona for spreading the word about us in the newsletter. If you are in Arizona and looking for a good way to get involved with animal rights you should check it out! http://www.meetup.com/animal-advocates-of-az/

Happy Birthday Brad!!

Birthdays, I love em! Since Brad seems to enjoy pb swirl brownies I thought I'd design a cake with the same elements. I used my insert pans to make a chocolate cake with a pb chocolate swirl cake inserted in the middle. Of course I made a pb butter cream frosting.

For the frosting I used a combo of creamy pb, soy milk, powdered sugar, vanilla, tofutti cream cheese and earth balance margarine. Just mix to your desired consistency.

I have to say, I think this is the richest cake I've made. Must be eaten with a glass of soy milk for sure!

Now, my recipe would usually only bake for 45 minutes, but with this type of cake pan it should have stayed in longer :( Due to this my insert didn't stay completely together, but it will still taste scrumptious!
